INFUSION DOSING

   
Adjust infusion rate to desired HR, CVP, BP, and UO. 2-10 mcg/min
   
Maybe your patient still needs more... 10-20 mcg/min
 

A pure b-agonist, produces a strong positive inotropic effect, relaxes bronchial smooth muscles, and increases vasodilation in the periphery.  Can be used for bronchial asthma, and reversible bronchospasm via nebulizers.  Effective for  b-blocker overdose, and sometimes for bradycardia, and torsades.   

 

Side Effects: AMI, VT/VF, hypotension, bronchitis, pulmonary edema, hypokalemia, Sz, angina, HA, anxiety, N/V, and more!  

 

Contraindicated:  AMI, cardiac arrest, digitalis toxicity, hypokalemia, and poison-induced shock.  High doses should only be used in b-blocker overdose.

Use cautiously with other sympathomimetics, and with simultaneous b-blocker use.
