Fresh Frozen Plasma:
Vol
= 150-200cc.
Requires its own special filter OR a blood
filter. Give 1-2 units for
every 5 units of PRBCs given, and infuse at 10cc/min.
100% Plasma without RBCs, WBCs, or Platelets! FFP should contain ALL clotting factors, which include II, V,
VII, IX, X, XI, XII, XIII. Ordered
whenever there is a need for non-specific clotting factors, such as in cases of
unknown bleeding, or when large volumes of PRBCs (>6 units) have been needed
to be infused within a relatively short period of time.
Has a higher risk of allergic reaction,
and also a higher risk of hepatitis viral/bacterial transmission that the
other blood products.
