Nitroglycerin:

Nitrate

IVP DOSING

12.5-25 mcg

I've never given this stuff as a bolus...  But it's certainly an exciting option.  Let's try it!!!

INFUSION DOSING

Start your infusion here, and  titrate as needed for whatever reason your giving it.  Hopefully NOT for BP controll, but, VERY possibly!!!

5 mcg/min

SL DOSING

0.3-0.5 mg Q 3-5 minutes x 3.  Alright, we got it already!!!

TD DOSING

This paste now comes in little condiment-like packages, so don't put it near your lunch!  Actually, the packages have taken all the fun out of it (I prefered it when we got to guess...)  Also, try taking it off before you call for the Dopamine drip!

1-2 inches

By suppling an exogenous source of nitric oxide to vascular cells, nitro systemically dilates both veins and arteries, decreasing preload and afterload, and thereby O2 demand.  It increases blood flow to the heart by dilating large coronary vessels.  This increases blood flow through collateral coronary circulation, and thus effectively relieves coronary vasospasm, angina and ischemia, and halts the progression of AMI.  Used for the treatment and prevention of myocardial ischemia and acute angina, and also for acute hypertension.

Side Effects: HA, ¯ BP, HR, syncope, flushing, N/V, tongue tingling.

Contraindicated: in hypotension, hypovolemia, ICB, aortic stenosis, RVMI, serious bradycardia of tachycardia, recent use of Viagra (sildenafil) within 24 hours.  Tolerance develops rapidly, and requires escalating doses when given continuously.
