Aussie History
The Australian Shepherd has an fascinating history as farm, ranch, and herding dogs in the United States. The breeders who developed the foundation for this breed gave careful consideration to the form and function of these amazing dogs. The ASCA Breed Standard was written describing the ideal represented by these foundation dogs. Our pictures date back to the early 1970's. Other sites offer many more pictures, some dating much earlier than ours! Links are available below. This page is dedicated to the foundation Aussie, many of whom were "just good ol' farm dogs."

Miller's Colorado Liz
(Roadrunners Lagrimus Azul X Elys Colorado Queen)
(Click for Pedigree)Liz was a litter sister to CH Miller's Colorado Ginger. She was a wavy coated black bi with a loyal and loving temperament. She is also the great playmate and protector that I remember from my own childhood. If a stranger came to our door, she would bark until we greeted the newcomer. She never forgot those who were welcomed into our home and would bark only once to announce old friends. Liz was the dam of puppies by Zipper (below) and Taylor's Teddy.
(I'm in the tummy behind Zipper!)Shew's Zipper
(Del Rey Royal Bleu X Quinton's Queenie)
(Click for Pedigree)Zipper was a blue bi with a natural bob tail (NBT). He was an incredibly agile, tough little dog. He truly could "go all day" and frequently did on mountaineering and horseback riding trips. He climbed to the top of several northwest mountains, including the infamous Mount Saint Helens before the eruption in 1980!
Liz and Zipper were my parents climbing companions and went along on many mountaineering trips. Some trips were so steep and treacherous that the dogs were roped in with harnesses for safety.
