The Washington Kayak Club (WKC) basic training class is a 2 ½ day class held this year at
Deception Pass State Park near Anacortes. Training is conducted at the Coronet Bay Environmental Learning Center (ELC) and nearby Coronet and Bowman Bays.
The class is sponsored by the American Canoe Association (ACA) in conjunction with the Washington Kayak Club.
The class is a combination of on-water and classroom seminars, covering paddle strokes, bracing, recovery and rescue techniques, safety, navigation and kayak camping. Instructors are enthusiastic and experienced WKC trainers, many with certification through ACA or BCU.
The class fee includes training instruction, all meals, and a bunk to sleep on. Students are responsible for supplying a kayak and associated gear. A drysuit is the required immersion clothing. All these items can be rented locally.

The location is the Cornet Bay Environmental Learning Center at Deception Pass State Park, located 9 miles south of Anacortes on Highway 20. The camp is in a beautiful setting on the shores of Cornet Bay.
