Dead Duck Island contains a remote controlled twin 1/4 inch gun battery to protect the targets on the island. The guns can traverse 360 degrees and have a range from five to fifty feet. The guns carry about 400 rounds of ammunition and are powered by an on board air compressor. The guns are sighted by a black and white television camera.
Power and control functions as well as television signal transmissions are provided by a seventy five foot cable bundle.
This island has there buildings that contain smoke bombs that may be set off by gunfire as well as paper targets that can be scored. The island will soon have the television camera and a searchlight built into the turret.
This island is the first in a series of target islands that will be added to the game. The islands will be modular so they can be linked in any combination. Future islands will contain ammunition dumps, oil tank farms, naval shore facilities and airfields. Most targets will be frangible and scoring will be determined by the amount of distruction to the particular facility.
The islands add a new dimension and a more identifiable objective for fighting fleet battles.
