Clackamas names Steen Co-Head Coach of Women's Basketball
Kayla Steen

Oregon City, OR - Kayla Steen will join Jim Martineau this season as Co-Head Coaches for the Lady Cougars of Clackamas CC.

Steen, a 2000 graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Portland, led the Cougars to their first of three straight Southern Region Championships in 2002. She was named Southern Region MVP and still holds multiple records at Clackamas for points scored, three point percentage, and three pointers made.

After a stellar career for the Lady Cougars, Steen earned a full ride scholarship to play for the Ducks at the University of Oregon. After earning her Bachelors Degree in Psychology in 2004 she spent a year as a Graduate Assistant Coach with the Ducks.

Steen returned back to Clackamas in the fall of 2006 to work for her former coaches as an assistant coach for the Lady Cougar Hoop program. Steen just finished her course work for her Masters Degree from the United States Sports Academy and will continue to teach and work in the HPE department at Clackamas.

Steen, along with long time Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator PJ Martineau, brought in a great group of new freshman players that will fit in well with the five returners. The combination of a new coach, five excellent returners, and a group of talented freshman has the Lady Cougars excited about the upcoming season.

Jim Martineau, who recently was named Director of the HPE/Athletic Department, sees the move as a must for the program to forward with continued success.

"Kayla brings a lot to the table for our program. She is a tough minded person who has a great understanding of the game of basketball, stated Martineau. "She also has a great understanding of how much work it takes to be great student/athlete and a great team. She will be an excellent role model for our players as well as other athletes on campus."
