Cross Country Championships Preview

This is the fifth time it has been hosted there since 2001.

Fourteen schools contending for top honors; Clark, Clackamas, Mt Hood, SW Oregon, Lane, Everett, Whatcom, Skagit Valley, Highline, Bellevue, Spokane, Treasure Valley and Green River

WOMEN
Individual Race:
The women's race looks to be fairly tight for the individual honors. There are several women that will be contending for top honors including the 2006 and 2007 NWAACC champions. Brittnee Sanchez of Spokane was the 2007 Individual champion and Sheryl Page of Mt Hood was the 2006 Individual champion. Leah Twombly of Lane was the 2007 runner-up with Karen Owens of Spokane placing third a year ago. Amy Durrance and Katie Owens of Spokane were fifth and sixth respectively a year ago. But all of those women may be chasing Laura Carlyle of Whatcom on November 8th as she has posted the fastest time in the NWAACC to date and was the champion at the Clark Preview race in September.

Team Race:
The team competition looks to be between defending NWAACC champion CC of Spokane, winners of the NWAACC preview meet, Lane winners of the Southern Regional Championship, Everett winners of the Northern Regional Championship. Whatcom could play spoiler though with several strong women up front.

MEN
Individual Race:
The men's individual race appears to be a tight contest between several strong runners. Undefeated in the NWAACC this Fall is Spokane freshman Rigoberto Jimenez. Equally strong is Everett freshman Yon Yilma, the Northern Region champion and Matt Moncur of Clark, the Southern Region champion. Whatcom has two strong runners in sophomore Cory Jenkins and freshman Josh Simpson. Rounding out the contenders are Spokane freshmen Herschel Sanchey and Humberto Jimenez. Max Reeder of Spokane is the top returnee from the 2007 NWAACC championship race where he was seventh overall. Lane’s Lukas Fenley and Spokane's Brad Serdar could also contend for top honors.

Team Race:
The team competition looks to be led by CC of Spokane, the seven-time defending NWAACC champions. Close behind the Sasquatch are Southern Regional Champion Lane, Northern Regional Champion Everett and Northern Regional runner-up Whatcom.
