Seattle CC hoopsters aid charities with money and time

Seattle, WA -- Seattle Storm men's team recently held its 5th annual Free Throws for a Cause fundraiser.  The fundraiser, created by head coach Kyle Gray, just completed its 5th consecutive year. Over that past five years, the Storm have raised over $12,000 total for charities.

Every year, players collect pledges on a per free throw basis, and then gather to shoot 100 each, coaches included.  “This is a great opportunity to combine basketball with helping out the community,” says head coach Kyle Gray, adding “the players always have a lot of fun.”

This year, the team donated funds and time to the Seattle Humane Society, raising over $2300 and donating time at the facility last week.

In previous years, the team has raised money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the American Cancer Society, the King County Coalition for the Homeless and Children’s Hospital in Seattle.

This charitable impulse is especially impressive because, according to Gray, the majority of the players rely on scholarships that cover about 65 percent of their tuition per quarter.
