1961 Farmall 340/D

Again welcome to this part of my web tractor page. This part of the web page takes a look at the work horse of my tractors a 1961 Farmall 340/D with TA. This is the first Farmall that I owned here in the State of Washington. I received this tractor in a horse deal along with a John Deer bush Hog, a post hole digger, an 8 ft roto tiller, 8 by 10 spike tooth drag and a two bottom plow along with $10,000 for one of our Hanoverian Sport horses. It was a mess even thought it ran fine the white side covers were missing, it had a after market wide front end, bad tires front and back, hydraulics were leaking, paint was brushed on and cracked badly, lights were missing, wiring harness was
cut up badly. I did not take any pictures of this tractor when it was in bad shape, so all you get to see is the almost completed tractor, only thing lacking is a new wiring harness and the lights everything else has been replaced. I have both the wiring harness ( which was hand made), the lights and the brackets to mount them, it took over three years to find all the sheet metal, lights and other things that were needed to bring this tractor back to almost original. Since there is no or little source
for this tractor it is had to find parts, it is to new to be old,  to old to be new thus many are still working and are not in bone/junk yards yet, also there was only 4000 made of this type.................

You will see a color change in the front wheels, the rims and tires are new but could not make my mind up which color I wanted the rims to be. There is no guide yet to what color they were, red or cream.

The old guy was working hard the day I took these pictures, we had just gotten done doing hay and pushing up the manure pile in the back round. Guess I should have washed him first..........................

Here is a back view, here you can see the light brackets and lights are still off. The lights and brackets are painted and ready to be put on when the picture was taken, but I had not receive the wiring harness yet. Also you will see that there is no battery cover, as of this date I have never found one, so I am going to prefab one in the near future.

I have alot of work in this tractor, but it's been worth every penny. I plan on rebuilding the engine on this tractor this winter or early next spring, it will cost about $1,100 for the rebuild kit. But the nice thing is that it will more than likely outlast me till the next engine rebuild which I will leave up to my son or daughter whom ever owns it by that time, this one lasted over 39 years.
