1943 Farmall H

Hello and again welcome to this part of my web tractor page. This part of the web page takes a look at the new kid in town a 1943 Farmall H. I come across this tractor though a phone call, the local tractor dealer gave the gentlemen my name and number, i'm going to get him for it.... The tractor like one other I have (1946 Farmall) was within six miles of my home here in Western Washington.

The sheet metal, tires, rims, draw bar all look good. It's the engine that's bad on this Farmall H. The engine was tied up ( frozen ), per the gentleman I bought it from it had sat outside for near on six years in a field with the value cover and hood off. When I saw it he had it sitting in his shed, the owner said that he was going to restore it but had to many other things going. I think he saw what work and how much money he had to stick into it and ran the other way. He told me it was good as a parts tractor and after looking at it the first time I had to agree, note I said the first time, after getting it home and looking it over I think that I can bring it back from the dead. What the heck I only paid $350.00 for it.

As you can see from this picture the oil pan is missing along with a muffler, the front wheels
are welded to the rims, the seat has long rusted off, but look at those axles, WOW, they
are sure long and the grill is near perfect only rusted.

Here you can see that the Carb and manifold is missing, battery case is rusted though along with worn out battery cables that have to be replaced.

You can see were the seat has rusted off now, the draw bar is a little bent from when my helper chained over the top of the draw bar instead of under. I can has already been removed and is straight, cleaned and ready fro paint. Yep you heard me, I'm going to restore the old girl, what the heck it's only money.

Here you have a closer look at the tires, they look almost new, WOW look at that axle, the rim is not in bad shape either. I did find out that I will have to replace the rim on the other side though :o(

This is a better look at the left rear side, as you can see the battery brackets will have to be replaced only with cables.

You can now see the left side of the engine were the manifold, carb are missing.

Here is the right side of the engine for your viewing pleasure, its going to need the mag rebuild, new spark plug cables & spark plugs, voltage regulator of course, complete new wiring harness as well..

Here is what parts the owner had left over after he had torn the engine apart, drove out the pistons and took off the head to pound the pistons out. I have not even looked at the head yet, I know it will more than likely have to be flexed or at least boiled and new valves, valve springs, keeper be put in.

All in all I have alot of work to do to this tractor, but I think it's worth every penny, I just can't bring myself to scrape a tractor that has as straight sheet metal, good rims, weights, rear tires, and extra long axles. This may be the tractor I put dual wheels on instead of my other H, sure it needs alot of engine work but what old tractor dozen't when you restoring them.
