Welcome to my online gallery. I have created fabric art for over 15 years with several pieces traveling both nationally and internationally in exhibits, and have been published in both books and magazines. Much of the work I have created prior to 2005 has been sold or given as gifts. The pieces that remain with me are shown here. I will be adding new work as it becomes available to be shown on the web. Many of the shows or galleries that I create work for will not accept pieces that have been published on the web so there is usually a year or two delay between creation and appearing on my website. Unless of course, the piece is accepted to a show immediately and then I am free to publicize it and the show. My most recent piece that falls into this category, Quantum Lake, is to the right. It is a somewhat smaller piece measuring 18" wide by 24" tall. It will be in a 2 year traveling exhibit, The Voice That is Great Within Us, with the Fiber Arts Connection of Southern California. My artist statement for this piece: My creative energy is engaged by the colors and textures of fabric. My artistic voice is inspired by the challenge of speaking for those who are not often heard or are unable to speak for themselves. Currently I’m focusing on speaking for Gaia, using birds as my symbol for nature. I want to help bring a more integrated awareness of being in this world through my art. |

One of my current pieces, Circles of Life: A Celebration is featured to the right. I created this piece to celebrate the connections in my life to some of the people who make it as wonderful as it is, and to celebrate having survived 8 surgeries in three years. Life is wonderful and should be celebrated! This piece will be traveling to various venues through December 2008 as part of an invitational exhibit. Most of the exhibit can be seen at this webpage. |

My first wallhanging, the piece to the right, Tail of Pain, was created for the Child Abuse Quilts exhibit which traveled for 4 years (1998 - 2002) in the United States, and to the Yokohama Quilt Show where my piece was one of 8 selected to be published in a magazine article about the exhibit. The full exhibit can be seen online at http://mbgoodman.tripod.com/caq/caq1.html. This piece is particularly significant to me because of the responses that are still being recorded in the guest book at the website. Because of the interactivity of the web, I know with certainty that my work has touched others deeply. Artist Statement: The tail is the trauma life deals us, trailing along behind us and often weighing us down. The only hope to excise this pain is to focus on the light, the positives in life, and our own growth. That is where we can gain the strength and wisdom to release our pains. This piece shows a woman whose tail is her hair, with her inner children tangled in the pain of their memories. But she is on the verge of becoming free, by reaching for the light in life.
