A Ride of Farms, Water, Parks and
Glass with John Neller
August 21, 2005
Five Acropolites woke up early on a Sunday to ride in the
sun from southern farmland into the city of Tacoma, Lincoln Park and then back
again after a short, but memorable stop to view the outdoor exhibits the Museum
of Glass. Of special note is the Chihuly Bridge of Glass -- a must for anyone in
the vicinity. Over 109 Chihuly sculptures line the bridge in all forms from
flowers to octopus to thorny balls to cherubs and more. Don’t forget this “must
see” bridge on your next bike ride to Tacoma!

Mud Mountain Dam with Daniel Brown

(Acropolis). Behind the camera: Vicki (Microsoft). Had to leave early for a
social engagement: Khiem (Acropolis)
Hooray for inter-team networking! Eight Acropolites were
joined by representatives from the only two other teams brave enough for the
assault on Mud Mountain: Microsoft and Weyerhauser. Maybe Team Starbucks had
caffeine jitters, or maybe they were actually quaking in fear of 2800’ elevation
gain over 57 miles in the summer heat. Several survivors declared this ride
“harder than MS150”.
2nd Annual Dinner and Poker Party Fundraiser
August 13, 2005

FUN was had by all at the 2nd Team
Acropolis sponsored poker party event this past Saturday. The top honors went to
Jeremy Ziskind, whose father Steve placed third (having never played before).
Steve has been a long time supporter of Lisa and Glen for the MS 150 rides they
have done in the past. Julie Carlton, an avid Team Acropolis supporter and
volunteer last year placed 2nd.
Two Kinds of Play in
Falls City

A toast and
gourmet lunch before the play
First,
let us play cycling a very scenic 41 miles around Falls City, Carnation and
Duvall. And then let us picnic and hike down into the woods to see a play
– The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare. Ah, never too much play!! This was a
really wonderful combo. A wonderful jaunt amongst the colorful flowers and rural
settings in the Snoqualmie Valley, followed by a gourmet picnic (we brought the
food and they set up the tent!) and play at the Snoqualmie Fall Forest Theatre.
If you ever get the chance to see a play there, it’s quite worth it. The
theatre is just a very small part of the extensive trails and wilderness on this
beautiful piece of property. For more information on plays and membership,
visit
http://www.foresttheater.org/. Thanks to Julie

A Most Excellent Sunday Afternoon

Imagine it – a
cool shaded backyard, warm sunny summer Sunday, fun people,
enjoyable conversation, a BBQ grilling, a bike repair specialist
works with your bike while you eat and chat and you’d be in Lloyd’s
peaceful backyard with Mike grilling you a hot link while Moe works
his magic on your non-motorized companion.
Team Acropolis Inauguration Ride -- July 11, 2005
Team Acropolis first official ride of the season started from our sponsor
Center Cycle in Renton (near IKEA) that has generously offered a 10% discount to
Team Acropolis members!!!

thanks to John Neller for his most excellent route and ride leadership!

In a touching example of inter-team cooperation, Team Microsoft Rider Brad repaired his own bike based on a phone consultation with Acropoloid Moe, using common everyday items found in Acropoloid Erin's car.

Brad displays the offending chain guard. Moe recommends we all remove these items immediately from our own bikes, even if they are not currently malfunctioning.
