Head nodding straight away, am I riding bareback through the West? Traditional Western sounds ensue and are the captivating force of these vocal-less compositions. Atmospheric and entrancing, and when the organ enters on 'Alki Surf' we witness the full extent of it all- this shit is eerie and that hook inescapable.

This ensemble really do push you in at the deep end and offer you no rescue or attempt of elucidation- and who wants it anyway? Listening to The Deep End you could be anywhere- and why would you want to be anywhere else? Its questionable that they are stuck somewhere in the past, but, wherever they are- I want to be stuck with them.

A very nice release from a good band with exceptional writing capability. The tracks are infectious and the band does not need to overpower you with volume or speed to get your attention. Quite a nice release.

One of the more exotic finds in my pile was THE DEEP END's cassette. It seems a colony of mute surfers was sucked in by the Juan de Fuca current and board-wrecked on the waveless shores of King County. This solid, instrumental surf pop's only shortcoming, in my humble opinion, is that it's instrumental. Even without lyrics, however, this is fun stuff, and I admire these beach worshippers and their ability to take a gray Pacific NW day and make-believe it's sunny.

The Rocket's Massive Local Tape Reviews, 11/6/96

Newest surf band to emerge from Seattle, Washington, The Deep End have put together a treasure of a tape with 6 of mostly of their own tunes. first cut Werewolves on Wheels has danger written all over it - created by an intense rhythm section, whammy bar madness, and a hypnotic, menacing lead guitar. A Mideast/Latin surf instrumental that stays with you long after you've taken the tape out of the deck is "Arubaderci". Then, "Alki Surf" is garage soul created on Farfisa [it's really a Vox] organ blended with a deep tremolo lead guitar. Judging by the talent and feeling of the band's music on this cassette, I know we'll be hearing more from them in the future!

This talented Seattle based surfband, " The Deep End," has produced a solid 10 song CD. They take you on a reverb filled excursion that'll make you want to hit the beach. From the first cut, "Werewolves on Wheels" to " High Noon in Cancun," (a surf Cha-Cha) these guys will have you unconsciously waxing up your surfboard. Some of my favorite songs are: "The Savage," (this song is a successful marriage of sticcato guitar, cool bass, rolling drums and pumping organ), "Alki Surf," (cool 90's ska with a 60's flavor), " Arubaderci," (you'll feel like a sunset walk on the beach), "At the Shrine of Eric Von Zipper," and my favorite..."Chicken of the Sea," This band is great and I highly suggest getting a copy of their CD and if they come to your town, Go see-em!

Dear Jim and all members of The Deepend: Thanks for the fantastic tape, very original sounding. I like your version of Savage.

I keep playing your tape over and over in my truck - I really dig it.

Great tunes! ...really enjoy your sound. To follow is a post regarding a surf contest I DJ'd last weekend - started off both days by playing your cassette all the way thru! (to a good response - those in Malibu enjoying your tunes!)
