The Deep End is a Seattle based Surf, Rock, Instro group that was formed in the Spring of 1995 by myself, Joe Jabon (guitar), Gordy Fitterer (guitar), Russ Fitterer (bass) and John Lavine (drums). This lineup only lasted for about six months and broke up before any recording could be done, but we had one memorable moment that leaves me wondering "What if... ???". After opening a show for a freshly signed band that was touring Seattle, we received a couple phone calls asking if we would be interested in opening for them on a mini Northwest tour. For whatever reason, we turned the offer down. Bad move! The band was Sublime and you know what happened to them that year... they just went numero uno. |
As I reformed the group with a new lineup, Jim Sadler (bass), Brian Glenn (guitar), Chris Glenn (drums) and myself on guitar, I made it my mission to make sure that this band get into the studio. After a couple months we recorded our demo tape, 'Chicken Of The Sea' at Vagrant Records on an eight track tape deck for the most part. It was a good thing we did it quickly, because that lineup only lasted for few more months before breaking up. Again I reformed, this time with Jim Sadler (bass), John Lavine (drums) and myself on guitar with no rhythm guitar. I figured, "Less moving parts... Greater chance of keeping it together". We added four songs to the demo tape and released a CD on a very limited basis to more less 'Test the Waters'. I've been very pleased with the results and have met many very supportive DJs and surf fans over the web. |
The Deep End now features myself, Joe Jabon (guitar), Tom Wolfe (bass) and Chris Glenn (drums) and I do believe this lineup can kick some serious butt! Case in point: After a resent show at The Colourbox, I was introduced to a rock dude who heaped some very nice compliments on me and the band. I thanked him and packed my gear up and as I was leaving the club, the guy who introduced me said, "Yeah... I thought you should meet him. That's Sean Kinney, the drummer for Alice In Chains!" I was already outside the club, but I went back in, walked up to him and told him I had no idea who he was and really took it as a compliment. He again said that he really liked our stuff and added "Seattle needs you." Right on Sean! |
