The Rosetta Stone was truly awe-inspiring. You should read up on it if you don't know about it. In (extreme) brief, it contains the same text written in ancient Greek and two different Egyptian languages (including hieroglyphics), the knowlege of which had been lost for a thousand years before the Rosetta Stone was found.
The stone had recently been cleaned; one portion has been (temporarily) left as it was.
