Following in the phenomenal steps of its PC cousin, Call of Duty: Finest
Hour is simply the best WWII themed shooter to ever be released on console.
Players take the guise of six different Allied soldiers who battle over various fronts near the end of World War II. Like the PC titles players
will battle in rural and urban settings, drive vehicles, use weapon emplacements in such locations as Stalingrad, North Africa, and Germany. Like the PC titles, Call of Duty simulates the feel and sound of war
better than any war game on the market. This is done by mixing scripted and open areas of gaming with solid A.I. support. Like an episode of "Band
of Brothers" you take it hard when a companion is cut down, and share their delight in victories.
Players are likely to find the tank driving missions a bit frustrating as they do tend to take some practice as turret and treads are controlled separately. With a little practice, players should be advancing toward
enemy emplacements with glee.
Call of Duty also contains Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag,
and the tactical Search & Destroy form of multiplay that will extend the gaming pleasure long after the satisfying solo play has been completed.
While this adventure is different than the two that are available on the
PC, it is still a very solid effort that will provide plenty of hours of thrills and challenge to gamers of all levels and clearly sets the stage for further console entries into the series.
Graphically the game is solid and the sound is amongst the best you will find anywhere. Bullets whiz by, ping off metal, and vary in sound depending on the weapon firing them.
One of the best games of the year, and a must own.
