Great! Brought home an 8 week old, 1 and 1/2 pound male, chocolate colored mini-daschund a few days ago. When selecting him, he was chewing on my thumb as I held him. Have named him White Fang, "Fang", the Wonder Mini Weenie Dog of the Oregon Territory after White Fang of the Yukon Territory in Call of the Wild. Vet says he has good heart and lungs, an even tempered puppy after being given shot, temperature check, worm medicine. Not a wimper, whine or bark. E-mailed my brother in Hawaii of our acquisition. His first statement was you'll love that dog. His second was they are STUBBORN. He went on to remind me he had two in Seattle and they also like to burrow. Burrowed into his ottoman and when he discovered them and they realized they were busted, they charged down the hallway to escape and he doesn't think their little feet touched the ground since they were moving so fast to get away. He also said they can negotiate most stairs, but, in many cases we will be their human elevators. He also warned me that he'll soon be sleeping in our bed and he will relegate me to the foot of the bed. He also advised that my wife will want another to keep him company. It took two days before she advised me of that. A co-worker advised me that he had a mini-weenie dog and his puppy has already moved into their bed, likes to sleep on their neck/shoulder area. He said they are good watch dogs and fearless. His sister baby-sitting his 8 month old mini weenie dog called him at work and told him to come pick up his puppy since it was chasing their worried black angus cow all over the pasture. My boss having raised show mini weenie dogs came by at my request to see our puppy. Told us Daschunds were bred to hunt rodents-badgers. Says no evidence of in-breeding, with head, ears, eyes, tail, legs are all show quality, though that was not our intent. He has two min-weenie dogs, and advised us that his dogs hunt deer and possoms like lions do. Female worries them, distracts them from front, the Male attacks from behind. He said the Female kept barking one day outside to get his attention so he finally stepped out on the porch. The Female was very proudly showing him a dead Timber Rattlesnake she had taken on. It is always wonderful to see other people who truely enjoy their dogs as much as you and I. I myself have a winnie dog, as well as a chocolate labrador. They are sisters and absolutely adore one another. You would not think so by the size difference. However my winnie rules the house (her name varies by the day between Ce Ce, Te TE, or PE PE, take a guess why, she tends to get excited and nervous at times). You have never seen a funnier site than a 70 pound lab bounding through the house in fear of the the 8 pound winnie. Ce Ce is very territorial of items that she claims as her own. But most of the time the items do not in fact belong to her, but she takes them as her own without regard to who actually owns the item. I have found that Ce Ce is scared of small children and she does not like change. Lexie or Lexus is the oldest..two years old red and a little chatter box. She loves to eat, beg and snuggle under blankets. Sammy or Sampson is our black and tan boy. He is 1 1/2. He has the same mother as Lexie but different father. He is a love. He is also mommy's boy while Lexie is daddy's girl. Together they play all day long. They can be naughty, but it's so hard to get mad at them. They love to chew on pillows..(not good) and ate a hole in one of my couches when they were bored. They sleep in our bed every night under the covers and down by our feet. Lexie, the female, is definitely the boss..even though she is much smaller in size than Sammy. Right now we are going through vigorous training to get them to stop barking at everything. Every time they bark..after the third bark it's "no barking" loudly,,then I give them a command..it distracts them...tell them good quiet and give them a tiny treat. They make me laugh when they play...running all around the house chasing each other and wrestling. They don't like cats or possums. They are our babies...bring us so much joy...were hard to potty train, but pretty good now. These dogs are so full of love, but I tell everyone they are stubborn and do need a lot of attention. Also, anyone planning on getting one...don't let them do too much jumping..their backs are very vulnerable. Our last doxie, Heidi, lived to be 16 1/2. She was a love also. Squibs shes a black&tan and our Champion or "The Champ" he's red.Two different personalities, Squibs is a no nonsence girl who often puts Champ in his place which can be hard on ones nerves. Champ the winer cries to the point of distaction or just giving in to him which is what usually happens.They have shredded blankets towels clothes to bury their balls they have eaten leather docs, belts, and various shoes as well as countless indian rubber balls there did't seem to be a toy on the market for Champ the distoyer util 3 years after he came home I found SQUASH BALLS! these little rubber gems can't be bitten he is going in his 2nd. week with the same ball. He lays beside you to get your attention he jerks and barks at you while laying down or he come up in front of you and strike a pose. You see as soon as he sees the camera he sits up.Squibs will not walk on a leash or leave her property. Yes she's gaining, she just digs her feet into the ground and you could pull her head off but she won't budge an inch. She's what they call the rabbit size her legs are as long as my index finger so 1 lb is alot on her any suggestions. they also don't like company they are ok after a while.When I paint the house they have to be right in the way and always end up with paint on them because when I get on the floor to do the bottom Champ jumps on my back and the other sits right in front of the wall eventually we're all covered in paint!Squbs hates other animals or people visiting we usually put them in the hall behind the gate. she eats like she's never seen food before and hates her but touched toe nails done she is extreamly allergic to the grass outside and often her whole face and neck swell fron hives which means childrens benedryl and a trip to the vet which has resulted on hooking her up to a monitor to watch her breathing, she loves her ball it goes to bed, outside to play, outside to the bathroom, its in her mouth at all times the vet said its her security blanket as soon as she gets up out comes that ball. They howel in sync with each other and its quite funny. Champ is not a good eater and he wrecks everything, he's had his head stuck under the fence because he pushed the ball under it. They push the ball in the pool watch it sink then bark for us to get it out this goes on all summer long. He 's very verbal telling me off atleast once a day. They have smooth coats and just great. My vet said that the black and tan has the darkest coat he's ever seen her parents were show dogs. She is jet black she 6 years old and you cant see any grey on her except around her mouth. She has very little fur on her tummy so she stays in alot in the cold weather. Bailey joined our family a little over a year ago. My parents found her at the local airport. She had been spotted hanging out for about a week. At my daughters encouraging they brought Bailey home. It has taken sometime for Bailey to learn her new name and feel comfortable with us she is very afraid of men and does not like for you to move to fast. She appears to have been abused after several vet trips Bailey doesn't have many teeth left. Whomever had her prior to us had not taken good care of her.
