Bruce's Grading and Drainage Page

This is Bruce Crawford's Grading and Drainage page.

Introduction and Disclaimer

This set of pages is designed to give professional civil engineers a systemic method for grading a site. Even if you are not a civil engineer these pages may give you a feel for some of the factors we balance. If you are a civil engineer I hope the methods and thoughts expressed are helpful.

These pages assume you know hydrologic and hydraulic calculation methods. Those calculation methods are covered in a lot of text books and manuals.

I assume NO liability for any items you may apply from these pages. If you are not a civil engineer and you want a site graded, find a professional civil engineer (preferably one who does a lot of site grading). If you are a professional engineer you are supposed to have professional judgement... so use it when as you read and apply this stuff. In the end everything contained herein is just an opinion. You get what you pay for and this hasn't cost you anything...

If you know of a good book or course on site grading and drainage please let me know. I haven't found one yet. My first boss as an engineer taught me grading & drainage. After over a decade of doing it myself, I ended up teaching new engineers. Frankly, not a lot of people have a method or are good at it. My experience is that the people who are good at it often use a method similar to mine.
