Ted's travel: Summer Dispatches

Ted, circa 1981, on Cape Cod attempting to tunnel his way to Asia

The following is an on-line journal of my travels in South-East Asia, China and the former Soviet Union from January to July of 1997. This page is meant to be an on-line serial where people can follow the progression of my travel; it should be in continual evolution throughout the first half of this year.

My desire is to allow you to enter into my world without forcing me back into yours. Thus, I will neither carry a portable computer nor consult this page during my journey. I will be sending reports to Seattle by normal mail--as opposed to communicating via email--where they will be converted to HTML and posted below. You will find supplements to this page posted here every ten days to two weeks dependent on the frequency with which I write and the efficiency of the post office.

In the interest of giving recidivist users easy access to new writing, the correspondences are listed in reverse chronological order with the most recently received appearing highest on the page. If this is your first time here, you might consider starting at the bottom of the page and working your way back up.
