I have been piping for the better part of 15 years, and when time
allows teaching professionally since 2004. I make my living
in
part as a Highland bagpiper.
I
split
my playing time between solo performance, being a recording artist
&
studio musician, and playing in John Cunningham Memorial
Tartan (Alumni?) Pipes & Drums, the band I co-found,
and Nae
Regrets,
my Highland
bagpipe/drum-kit
fusion project.
My
present teaching strength lays in instructing beginning and novice
pipers. I welcome youths and early-adult players.
When I am
unavailable for lessons, I do my best to direct those interested in
taking up Highland bagpiping to some of the other various local skilled
instructors.
I
require that regular students own and use certain materials including a
Gibson practice chanter, a metronome, and a few particular
texts.
For progress in playing, I expect my students to form a practice plan
that fits within their time away from our lesson time and adhere to
their
plan as close as possible.
While I prefer to meet with students on a regular weekly basis, I also
do drop-in lessons. Contact
me to check my availability.
