Electromuse One At COCA
Northwest CyberArtists productions presented an evening of oscillating electrons. Seven experimental electronic music pieces, featuring a diverse array of Northwest musicians performed live at the COCA gallery in Seattle, November 14th.

Thereminists
Jason Barile, Mike Firis, and Lorie Merlino delighted the audience with experimental and classic tunes on the world's only musical instrument that is played without being touched. Pieces performed included "Glissandi" by Jorge Campos, an abstract piece for three theremins illustrating the relationship between a theremin and the performer, and the popular favorite "Sleepwalk." Listen to "Amazing Grace", in RealAudio performed by thereminist Jason Barile.

Allan Loucks
Allan Loucks performed Wasserspieler Electronic and Oceans. Wasserspieler Electronic is part of the Wasserspieler Suite, which was originally composed and performed for interaction with a midi-controlled water fountain. Oceans was composed by David Loucks, originally for full symphony orchestra, as a musical score to accompany ocean scenes. Both works are featured on Tin Ear's 2nd CD "Name That Mood". Listen to this sample from Tin Ear's " Wasserspieler Electronic", in RealAudio.

Steve Turnidge and Einar Ask
Steve and Einar performed an Internet MIDI jam with other musicians from around the world using ResRocket Surfer's DRGN (Distributed Real-Time Groove Network) technology. The musicians included people who have never met in person, living on different continents, and influenced by different styles of music. Listen to this sample from Einar Ask, Steve Turnidge and the ResRocket Surfers "Jam#1", in RealAudio.

Intonarumori
The music of Intonarumori is based on composed, found and environmental sounds. Randomness and chance are often utilized. The Rocket (Seattle) said of Intonarumori's Sound Collages Cassette (1995), "Disturbing is the word that springs to mind when listening to Intonarumori. It'll drive out relatives who outstay their welcome." Listen to this sample from "Intonarumori's Layer Parallelism ", in RealAudio.

Strange Attractor #5
John Beezer discovered his technique for creating audio fractals while experimenting with ways to synthetically generate the tones found in guitar feedback. While the resulting sounds are created through simple mathematical processes, massive dynamic iterations give them an organic tonality characterized by aural strange attractors and sensitive dependence on initial conditions. Listen to this sample from John Beezer's "Strange Attractor #5", in RealAudio.

Mark Taylor-Canfield
Mark has composed for dance, theater and film. His work has been presented at international electro-acoustique festivals in Europe and by the Washington Composers Forum here in the U.S. He's also a member of the experimental music group Lucid, which has gained an international reputation for exploring soundscapes. Mark's approach is termed "musique concrete"--combining unique editing of natural sounds and composed music to create surreal cinematic soundscapes. Listen to this sample from Mark Taylor Canfield's "3rd Dream from the Center of the Left Eye", in RealAudio.

Christopher DeLaurenti
Christopher DeLaurenti is a Seattle-based composer in the tradition of Beethoven, Stravinsky, Ellington and Xenakis. For information, sound clips, squibs and pilfered images of Rosicrucians, visit his home page. Listen to this sample in RealAudio.
