Present

I presently work for Starbucks Coffee Company (I started in December 1994) as an Information & Inventory Control Specialist. Some of my more interesting duties include:
  • Tracking current promotions with Query-AS/400 and prepare progress reports for management.
  • Instructing and coaching partners in learning new tasks, to include AS/400, forklifts, and various computer applications (such as Windows, Excel, and Word).
  • Working with a team to document inventory control tasks and processes.
Past highlights include:
  • Planned the material relocation of a major business unit's distribution to a new out-of-state facility.
  • Facilitating a diversity development program.
  • Analyzing and reconciling variances to ensure the system aligns with actual inventory and identifying inventory issues.
  • Profile picking locations to streamline distribution operations.

Post-Army & Pre-Starbucks

After leaving the Army, I tried a variety of things to round out my experience, to include sales (electronic goods), designing and programming a billing database, and instructing computer applications such as dBase, Paradox, Windows, Word, and Excel.

Army career

I served in the U.S. Army from November 1968 to November 1991 and retired as a Sergeant First Class (E-7). For about the last eight years I was an Instructional Designer and Training Specialist. Highlights of this period include:
  • Consultant for instructional design and curriculum development.
  • Training members of the Army, Air Force, Marines, and foreign nationals.
  • Member of team that developed and implemented an eight-week training program that greatly enhanced the training while reducing training time by 10%.
  • Developing a safety risk analysis that became a model for the company.
  • Designing and writing a Skill Qualification Test.
Before that I served in various combat and construction engineer companies:
  • Supervising a platoon in major construction projects.
  • Managing the horizontal construction of one of Germany's largest public sports field.
  • Squad leader in a Combat Engineer company.
